what did you use as bait/what lure did you use?

I’m very disappointed that after discovering something so wonderful, you would post it here. That wonderful thing will be gone very soon if you continue to do this. Some of our most fond memories of fishing are from this area. It makes me sad to see it exploited like this. The reproduction percentage in this lake is very low, and even taking 1 golden per day will have a large impact…believe it or not. Please show some respect for one of our last great resources in the United States.

@scottisko0L Pretty amazing, Scott… not once, but twice, you managed to attempt and fail to assemble a small, simple, grammatically correct sentence . What middle school did you drop out of? Maybe you should do a little more than dream about mating with your sister and producing more in-breds like yourself… I take insults from losers like you as a compliment, so knock yourself out and show us some more of your fabulous wit and wisdom.

  4. scottisko0L says:

@bshettel your still a DOUCHE BAG

  5. bshettel says:

@Dryfly00 Sorry to leave you hanging… For the record, I do as much fly fishing as spin. I prefer spin fishing in the Winds, because of, well, the wind. Again, in deference to a previous post [Burning Mandolin somewhere down below; he castigated me and he was probably right…], check out the clues I’ve already given. I’ll drop you one more… the first time I went to this lake (1987) it took us 3 days, and I had knees back then. A final hint, check out the IGFA record book for goldens.

@scottisko0L Good lord… I’m not sure if you’re quite bright enough to grasp all this, Scott (given your inability to read the previous posts and your ignorance of spell checkers) but, yes, I DO actually catch and eat fish. I also subscribe to catch and release sustainability WHERE IT IS WARRANTED. I’ve been appalled on NUMEROUS occasions, observing rabid catch and release anglers mishandle fish that come floating belly up an hour later, usually while they’re bragging about their numbers…

Did you just say ” Suppa”? docuhe bag

  8. Dryfly00 says:

How in the world would I know where this lake is by asking the distance of the hike? Just asking how hard you worked for that fish. Sense when were spin fishermen so secretive?

  9. bshettel says:

@Dryfly00 Hmm… in deference to burningmandolin (?), I’m not going to post any more info than you see below… Suffice it to say, it’s a long, gnarly one… 😉

  10. Dryfly00 says:

This looks great, I am working in Yellowstone next summer and hope to make a couple golden trout trips. How far of a hike into this place?

  11. pele76i says:

@bshettel Thanks for info… So what now? Is some other landing net like that or this is one type on the world? Cant find anything similar 🙁

  12. bshettel says:

@pele76i It’s a Gudebrod EZfold… sadly, the Gudebrod company folded in August of this year. Every shop that advertises it also lists it as out of stock. I’m hoping somebody buys the patent and starts producing it again. For now, I just keep repairing the net itself…

  13. pele76i says:

    Well Done!!! Great Catch 😀
What kind of landing net u have there? Looking for something like that for my equipment and cant find any 🙁

  14. 909beats says:

@bshettel agreed, even now the best way to go is to extract the know-how form the locals.

@bshettel Just like Valentine 25 years ago, it will get trampled and fished out. Only difference is that people used to have to go buy a book and do some research…. Now they can just troll youtube and have their trip plan together in a day or two. I would be interested in hearing your motives for posting the name and location. You could have just left it at “Osthoff ruined it” and that would be enough of a hint for people willing to put in the time. Oh well. Enjoy the crowds.

    Nice!

  19. bshettel says:

Actually, that one IS a small one… I revive and toss the 4 and 5 pounders. Half the fish we catch at this lake are in the 3 pound range. This is an excellent self reproducing lake and 95% of the fish in it die of old age or non-human predation. I’m all for catch and release, but I’ll usually keep one 3 pounder per day for ‘suppa’. They are absolutely the best eating salmonid in the world.

  20. burningmandolin says:

Why did you call it “super”. Seems like you would maybe put that beautiful fish back to fight another day and catch something smaller to eat.

aquilo é gelo e o tiuzinho ta de bermuda! É isso mesmo que ta acontecendo?!! nao to acreditando….

  24. WyomingFish says:

@dipsie12 No if anything it was a strange rainbow. It had the orange and red from its throat down its belly. then red tripe in the middle

  25. dipsie12 says:

@WyomingFish then you my friend caught a brown trout

  26. Awesome video. I would love to catch a golden trout sometime in my life. I think they are one of the rarest trout. or am I wrong? I heard there is only a few, high mountain lakes that have natural populations.

    William @ AnglerWise

  27. The EZFold fly fishing nets you are speaking of are once again in production and our company, Angler Enterprises, LLC is a registered distributor.

Our website is EZFold.net We have also created a belt for the holster that can be used as wader belt, but fits well for EZFold holster.

Just thought I’d let you know. Good fishing!

  28. Stephen says:
